I. The Organization
Although Sam Krause has registered the "trade" name for the purposes of dealing with the government, there really isn't a Seattle Luthiers organization. Various people organize meetings, events and forms of communication. Nobody exercises any control over anybody else except by praise or lack thereof.
II. Purposes for which information is gathered
Several members gather identifying information about others, for the purposes of
- Sending meeting notices
- Sending other notices
- Providing an online directory (of those who choose to be included)
- Posting notices by members on our online bulletin board
- Publication on its web page of accounts of meetings and other events
Note: at the time of this writing, our e-mail list contains no information other than addresses (without names) and is handled my a Mailman server, where a member's inclusion on the list is under his or her control as is the access to the member's personal information. Further, the member's e-mail address on this list is displayed in a way that conceals its nature from automated programs that search for addresses.
III. Types of Information Gathered
Information gathered may include name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, and, in the case of the online directory, personal descriptions of items or characteristics the member may have or seek.
Note: information of the type described may be kept in a way that makes it accessible to several people, without any provision for security.
IV. Disclosure
Information about members is intentionally disclosed in the following ways:
- In the online directory
- In meeting notices and published accounts of events
- Notices posted by members on our online bulletin board
- Incidentally, for instance, e-mail headers may contain the e-mail addresses of many members.
V. Policy
We ask the people who have access to this information:
- Not to sell the names, telephone numbers, addresses or e-mail addresses of its members
- Not to publish that information without a member's consent, except incidentally as described above
VI. Policy Changes
Any current privacy policy will be posted at this location, http://www.seattleluthiers.org/privacy.htm, or at a location which can be easily found from its website. A change in policy will be considered effective after it has been posted for at least thirty days.
