The table at the S.L.G. boothStaff and visitors crowd the Seattle Luthiers Group booth at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle on Monday, May 29.  Shown here from left to right are Rob Girdis, Brent McElroy, Denis Merrill and Paul Hass.  The festival, an annual event since the early 1970s, draws big crowds even when the weather is less than perfect.  Some come just for the musical performances, but there's interest in arts and crafts as well.  Musical instrument sappeal to both audiences.  The Seattle Luthiers Group has been an exhibitor at the festival for most of the group's history.

EDITORIAL -- A New Age of Cooperation

The NEWS has learned from a well-placed source that a local luthier planning to construct new shop space is considering including a finishing area that could be available to other instrument makers.

Our management believes that such a project represents the very finest example of devotion to the princlples of cooperation and mutual support which characterize our vocation.  Readers who would be interested in taking advantage of the savings in space and capital expenditure representedby this opportunity are urged to write to the editor so that we may inform the proponent of the volume of interest which he can expect.  Watch these pages for further details.
