LUTHIERS GROUP WOWS CROWDS
Seattle, May 29
For the second year in a row the Seattle Luthiers Group made a strong showing at the Northwest Folklife Festival held at Seattle Center on Memorial Day weekend.

In a booth centrally located against the back wall of the Music Emporium, the group exhibited works by its members ranging from harps to ukuleles.

Several individuals made sales or received commisions at the event. Although some of last year's heavy hitters were noticeably absent due to business or personal obligations, an emerging new generation of instument makers arrived to fill in the ranks. Returning from last year were Clint Ferrell, Jason Lollar, David Dorning, Brent McElroy, Dave Krause and Paul Hass.

Two lovely violins by David Krause
The first one was no fluke -- The cetation creations of David Krause continue to propagate.  These two beautiful instruments were displayed at the Northwest Folklife Festival, above a matching arch-top guitar with dolphin-shaped f-holes.
Represented for the first time were the works of Jim Blilie and Denis Merrill. Furthermore, the booth next door featured Ray Mooers' Dusty Strings dulcimers.  Since the festival itself is apparently on a sounder footing than in the recent past, fans of stringed instruments can begin now to look forward to another triumph in 2001.
